-={ LETTERS TO WIZWORLD }=- A curious (and namepull-requested) Movie Fan asks: > What did you actually *do* in WOSAT, besides star all > through it as a crazy special effects filmmaker??? I was originally only one of a group of talented artists that this movie was supposed to showcase. Bizarre events and industrial intrigue would change everything... But to answer your question in less than a million words: I hold the Unofficial World Record for Most Jobs Worked to Create a 35mm Theatrical Motion Picture. If you haven't seen "The Wizard of Speed and Time" (an action-adventure -comedy-fantasy-semi-documentary about hypercreative film makers up against the Hollywood System), it's because P.R. and Distribution were a few of the jobs I wasn't allowed. ("Look, we're professionals, we know what we're doing.") Though a complete listing exceeds 200 jobs, I shall lessen probably valid accusations of egomaniacism by listing only the most industrially-recognized occupations currently clogging modern movie credits (eliminating many assistant duties and titles that I consider duplicative): Jobs worked by Mike Jittlov to create "THE WIZARD OF SPEED AND TIME" Producer Executive Producer Director Story Concept Creator Treatment Writer Story Researcher Screenplay Writer Rewriter Script Editor Script Supervisor Script Typist Continuity Director Photography Location Photographer Still Photographer Camera Operator Camera Loader Focus Puller Camera Repairman Matte Photographer Stop Motion Animator Pixilation Animator Kinestasis Animator Rotoscope Animator Cartoon Animator Clay Animator Graphics Animator Time Lapse Animator Animation Designer Animation Researcher Animation Inker Animation Painter Animation Inbetweener Animation Checker Animation Editor Animation Cameraman Superspeed Cameraman Bike-O-Cam Operator Video Cameraman Negative Cutter Negative Splicer Negative Vaulter Toy Wrangler 35mph Suitcase Wrangler Location Scout Special Effects Director Special Effects Art Director Special Effects Key Sculptor Special Effects Modelmaker Special Effects Creator Special Effects Cameraman Location Special Effects Pyrotechnician Armature Designer Production Designer Art Director Set Decorator Set Builder Set Rebuilder Conceptual Artist Storyboard Artist Lettering Artist Graphics Artist Poster Artist Title Design Art Secretary Production Manager Production Assistant Production Publicist Production Buyer Production Loans Production Secretary Accountant (before ex-business partner) Sound Recorder Sound Mixer Sound Assistant Sound Effects Man Sound Equipment Repairman Editing Equipment Repairman Foley Artist Music Composer Musician Supervising Editor Music Editor Dialogue Editor Sound Effects Editor Special Effects Editor ADR Editor Video Editor Trailer Editor Actor, Star Actor, Pixilation Actor, Extra (several, actually) Actor, Stuntman Actor, Dog Double Actor, Voice Overs Actor, Singer Backup Singer Whistler Dancer Choreographer Puppeteer Makeup Artist Hairstylist Costume Designer Costume Supervisor Wardrobe Manager Casting Director Location Casting Stunt Coordinator Stunt Driver Truck Driver Transport Captain Craft Services Product Placement Office Manager Shop Manager Machinist Property Master Prop Designer Prop Maker Electrical Designer Carpenter Painter Plasterer Laborer Janitor Greensman Construction Foreman Gaffer Best Boy Electrician Key Grip Dolly Grip Key Schlepp Some of these occupations were, of course, worked by other talents during the movie's principal photography. But when the Production Accountant vanished with the funding, I had to teach myself to do all the above jobs, or lose the entire project. After four years of backbreaking and unpaid labor, I finally had a screening print. Despite its abysmal film and video distribution (a job not permitted me), with only 3 prints made for all North America, this full-length 35mm independent feature film won outstanding media reviews, six awards of excellence, and a higher rating on the Internet Movie Database than most big-budget name-star studio films. Not bad, for a first-time movie director. (And first-time scriptwriter, first-time feature film actor, first-time 35mm editor, etcetera times 131 ;-) If you want to see "Wizard of Speed and Time" on TV, tell your favorite network to contact me.
